The average small team ships a web application without a Web Application Firewall in front of it. They know they should have one. They put it on the backlog. Then a real user reports slow pages, or the free trial ends, and the WAF ticket rots for another quarter.

Defen.so started because we watched that pattern happen at every stage of our careers. The gap between what teams should do and what they actually deploy is not a knowledge gap. It is a friction gap.

Three specific frictions we set out to remove

Installation. A WAF that takes an afternoon of DNS work never gets installed on the side project. Defen.so is one line in your app or one DNS record on your domain. The install page is deliberately boring.

Downside risk. The reason teams delay is fear the WAF blocks a real customer during a Sunday product launch. Defen.so is fail-open. If our edge or our API is unreachable, your app keeps serving. You lose protection, not availability. Every SDK is written that way, tested that way, and shipped that way.

Cost. Traditional WAFs price like enterprise software. Defen.so free-tier protects one hobby project all the way through. Pro is 29 dollars a month per site. Business is 69. Enterprise is scoped, not listed.

Who runs this

Defen.so is built by Next Lab LLC, a US company with twenty years of combined experience across application engineering and security. We survived every framework and every attack fashion. We know how software gets built, and we know how attackers think about the same code.

That experience is why we are careful with the free tier. Every free-tier user gets a real WAF, real honeypots, real uptime monitoring, and one real pentest a month. Not a demo. If you decide to pay us, it is because you outgrew the free tier, not because we starved you into it.
